Multinational financial services corporation, American Express and the social media giant, Twitter have announced a partnership that will allow people to purchase items via a tweet.

AmEx and Twitter announce partnership

By syncing their Amex account with their Twitter account, users can respond to offers by tweeting with the inclusion of a hashtag that corresponds with the offer. (See left) This is a service that can be used for both physical and virtual items.

The creation of this partnership is this latest in a line of revenue sources for the micro-blogging site as it looks towards possible floatation in 2014. The already popular 'promoted trend' — visible to many users as they look to see what topics are generating the most interest — has just seen an increase in price, with advertisers now paying up to $200,000 per day to be featured.

It is estimated that Twitter generated $350m in revenues in 2012 which could possibly double through 2013 via promoted tweets, trends and now this Amex partnership.

Anyone who wishes to use this service should head over to the Amex Sync page.
